Handy Mum Dom

Hey there! I'm Dom Daviau. I live in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island and I have a deep love of nature and a passion for fun, laughter and impromptu adventures. I’m blessed with my two amazing daughters and my older sister! They're the heartbeat of my world, alongside my furry companions: Lucy the comedian dog , and the jazzy cat duo, Louis and Ella.

Nature is my sanctuary, and you'll often find me outside, whether I'm hiking through the rainforests or walking on a westcoast beach, snowshoeing, paddling in my kayak, or camping. There's something truly magical about immersing myself in the great outdoors.

When I'm not exploring the wilderness, I thrive on keeping myself healthy working out, spending time with my family & friends, laughing, and creating memories that last a lifetime. Music moves my soul, so you might catch me swaying to the rhythm of jazz or dancing my heart out to some good old tunes.

After being an at-home parent for my kids the first 12 years, I went back to school to complete my certification in Fine Woodworking. I worked in a variety of furniture fabrication and cabinet shops. During those years in the business, I reflected a lot on what was missing for me and it became clear that I needed variety and people, because I am very social. (If you could talk to my old school teachers, they would agree 100%).  This environment is typically a production-type environment. I learned a lot and had opportunities to do apprenticeships in joinery but I really wasn’t happy or enjoying it.

One day it came to me! I had a vision of using my skills to empower women in their spaces and how they could learn from me. I couldn’t stop thinking or talking about the vision to everyone around me. It made me feel so good! So, without evidence it would work or money to start, I took a leap of faith and haven’t looked back since 2007.

Over the years I’ve worked with homeowners, non for profit, and I am the go to for local women’s shelters, group homes for physically and mentally compromised clients, whenever they need something done. It’s been very rewarding!

Now, with all these years of gathered experience, I’m ready to start sharing my knowledge on a more intentional basis. I want to empower and support as many women (of all ages) as possible, so they can learn about the use and safety of power tools, learn about their home’s health as well as useful tips. What really brings me the most joy is that YOU become more self reliant and confident with these skills and how it ripples out into other areas of your life!

I approach each day with gratitude, curiosity, and an open heart. Life is an adventure, and I'm determined to make the most of every moment. This new teaching journey is part of that for me. Perhaps this resonates for you too and you’re ready to take a leap for yourself. I’d love to be the one who starts you off on the journey of self reliance and to give you the “tools” to get the job done.
